Sharpen your cable business skills through this intense one-day program. Learn about the hot technology issues that arise in the cable industry and how these issues will affect your company’s business. The full agenda below outlines what the topics will include throughout the day.

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Registration and Continental Breakfast

• Introduction: Cable History
     To kick-off the program, you’ll receive an broad overview of the cable  
     landscape, including facts, figures, where it all began, what’s changed and
     where the industry is heading.
• The Players: Operators and Programmers
     This session will focus on the “who” in cable, primarily the operators and
     programmers.  You’ll learn who the key players are, what they do,
     organizational structures, how roles have shifted plus key areas of interest
     and focus today from both the main industry segments.  In addition, you’ll
     learn about other players in the industry, including vendors, analysts,
     advertisers, regulators, and more!
• The Business of Cable
     Knowing the history and “who” of the cable industry provides a good
     foundation for learning more about the business of cable, including: various
     business models, programming negotiations, revenue and cash flow, and
     measures of success.  This session will focus on the business considerations
     and will include recent financial data on the industry to see how the
     industry is faring.
• The Technology behind Cable
     During this session, you’ll learn how cable systems work, what new
     technologies are emerging and on the horizon and also some of the new
     products that are entering the marketplace.  From bandwidth to switched
     digital to on-demand, this session will explain the technology driving the
     industry.

Noon – 1 p.m.  Lunch
• Networking Lunch
     Take this opportunity to meet new people and learn what area in the
     industry they focus on and how it relates to what you do.

1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Afternoon Sessions
• Competition in Cable
     If you read any of the industry publications or the WSJ for that matter, you
     know that the cable industry is fiercely competitive and companies are
     constantly assessing who their competition is and how to stay in front of
     the pack.   From satellite to telcos to broadcasters to internet services,
     you’ll learn how these industry players position themselves, how they view
     the competition and efforts to differentiate themselves from the rest.
• Regulations and the Industry
     Knowing how cable is regulated is an important part and this session
     will discuss regulation from the state up to the federal level.
     You’ll learn what the major regulatory issues of today are and how they
     affect the cable industry.
• Bootcamp Wrap-Up
     A lot of material was covered during the course of the day.  This wrap-up
     session will revisit the highlights and key points and provide additional
     resources that will be useful to you as you continue your career in cable.

Who Should Attend?
The WICT Cable Bootcamp is a program for both women and men that are new, within the last 3 years, to the cable telecommunications industry.  Whether you work for a cable operator or programmer, you are sure to pick up new information and skills that will help guide you in your cable career.
