Women in Cable Telecommunications serves as a catalyst for industry change through research, development, advocacy and educational programs.
Our current research effort is the PAR Initiative, which measures and supports the advancement of women in the cable and telecommunications industry against the standards of Pay equity, Advancement opportunities and Resources for work/life support. The PAR Initiative offers a roadmap for identifying and tracking inequality and pinpointing where there is room for improvement. Companies can then apply this information to such areas as employee retention and recruiting, and to such crucial practices as establishing a pay equity policy. WICT's PAR Initiative affects the entire cable industry by creating benchmarks for a more diverse and fair work environment. The PAR At Work newsletters celebrate the achievements of women in cable and promote the best practices of companies named to our " Best Companies" lists.
Launced in 2006 as the result of information gathered from the PAR Initiative, WICT Tech It Out promotes the cable technology opportunities to women who are already employed in the cable industry, but are not fully aware of the options available to them. Additionally, the program showcases the cable technology industry to women in other professions (i.e. engineering) who have the necessary skills sets, but not the knowledge of cable as a career path option. Through grassroots efforts largely facilitated by the WICT chapters, Tech It Out will educate the middle grade, high school and college audiences.
