WICT Foundation Work/Life Productivity Initiative
The work/life productivity initiative is one of the Foundation’s long-term initiatives. It grew out of the Foundation's first strategic initiative, the CableForce 2000 Study. That study, conducted in 1990, showed the industry that workforce diversity would be the nature of the telecommunications workforce into the next millennium. As a result, the WICT Foundation began providing the industry with tools for succeeding with a diverse workforce.
Among the tools, in 1994 the Foundation conducted a landmark childcare study addressing the positive workforce productivity implications for companies that implement child care programs. In 1997, the Foundation published the Industry Resource Guide, a compendium of programs successfully implemented within the telecommunications industry, which promote work/life balance.
In 1999, the Foundation released a new study on work/life productivity issues, Benefits of Balance: Increasing Employee Productivity Through Work/Life Programs. This book, based on WICT Foundation research conducted in 1998, examines trends in work/life productivity programs within the telecommunications industry, and compares the industry to general business in the United States. It also served as a supplement to the 1997 Industry Resource Guide.
