Laurie Root is WICT’s Director of Education & Program Development. In this capacity, she is responsible for the general professional education strategy for WICT including Cable Bootcamp, the Executive Development Seminar, the Rising Leaders Program, the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute (BMLI), the Chapter Leadership Conference and the WICT Leadership Conference.
Laurie brings 15 years of association education, management and public affairs experience to WICT. As Vice President of Education for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAOIP), Laurie developed and executed the organization’s Annual Conference, three national conferences and a variety of national seminars. She created a new Executive Education course for NAOIP that was accepted by Harvard as one of its core real estate programs. Prior to that, Laurie was Vice President of William C Pflaum Co., Inc., an association management firm, and was responsible for overall client management, budgeting, marketing, media relations, educational activities, committee management, awards events, and new program development. She has previously served as a consultant focusing on public affairs and political campaigns in Loudoun County, Virginia and as COO of Market Salamander. Laurie also worked for Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation for two years while living in Seoul, Korea.
Laurie lives in Loudoun County, Virginia and is a member of the Dulles South Business Alliance and the American Society of Association Executives . She is a past member of the Main Street Middleburg Committee, Tourism Action Team (Middleburg), Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and the Loudoun County Commission on Women. She was also the co-chair of the Project Helping Hands Fundraiser which supports disaster relief projects. Laurie is a graduate of Hollins University and participated in the Hollins Abroad London program.
