Words from Past President, Kathy Hatala:
"Last year began with changing our chapter name from WICT Atlanta to WICT Southeast. We did this to better define the territory we cover: GA, TN, MS and AL. The SE Chapter serves 1077 members, and we are especially grateful for the outreach efforts coming from the state of TN, where we are serving well over 20% of our membership. We ask each of you to continue to help us engage new members and bring colleagues to WICT! WICT on a national level now reaches over 9000 members and growing – what a wonderful accomplishment and something we should all celebrate!
In 2011, our chapter theme was one of the WICT Touchstones, “CONNECT…to your peers, your industry and everything around you”: http://www.wict.org/about/touchstones/Pages/default.aspx .
PROGRAMMING:
We did our best to thread this theme into everything we did this year. Our programming team focused on providing opportunities for industry growth and learning, as well an environment for networking. We offered compelling industry panels, mentoring opportunities, free webinars, lunch & learns, book clubs, cable industry “boot camp”, and technology programs in Atlanta and Knoxville…too many to mention and list individually! One of the most successful programs held in Atlanta was the Senior Executive Panel where an esteemed group of cable executives provided our members (over 250 in attendance) with an industry update and vision for the future. We also offered the first ever “live stream” of the event, so every member could CONNECT and participate.

In Knoxville, numerous programming events also took place during the year, including an outstanding Mentoring Roundtable session, where industry executives provided insights and leadership skills to all attendees in a roundtable format. Well over 200 members participated and it was an incredible way to CONNECT and learn. We look forward to providing you with more leadership development opportunities through our programs in 2012.
MENTORING:
Our Chapter has been recognized for Mentoring Excellence for the past 3 years from WICT National. We continue to raise the bar, through our Peer to Peer program, college mentoring with University of Tennessee, Pellissippi State Community College, Agnes Scott College, Spelman College and Georgia Tech University. The mentoring team also launched a “mentoring blog” where you can get CONNECTED and learn more about your industry and leadership skills: http://wictmentorshipblog.com/. We are currently working with some of the Betsy Magness graduates in our chapter on a reverse mentoring program (Betsy’s are mentored by college graduates on new technologies). More to come on this exciting endeavor! Thank you to all our WICT mentors and mentees…mentoring is really about sharing life experiences and we encourage you to continue to CONNECT and learn from each other."
SIGNATURE EVENTS:
We held our annual WICT SE Golf and Tennis Tournament in September. This event is a fun way to network with your industry colleagues outside of the office. Thank you to everyone who participated in golf and played tennis – it was a fantastic day.
