ABOUT ROBIN FISHER-ROFFER (In Her Own Words) I began my media career when I was 11, writing ad copy for my dad's small agency in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a single father, so I ended up getting exposed to the business at an early age. When it was time to go to college, I chose the University of Alabama and became president of the only Jewish sorority. I was also a key player on Bama's concert committee and helped bring in acts like The Go-Go's, Hall and Oates, and Stevie Nicks. My branding education kicked into high gear in 1988 when I became TNT's Manager of Creative Services. There, I crafted advertising campaigns designed to create awareness for TNT's original movies. Later I directed affiliate-aimed advertising and promotion for CNN, Headline News, TNT, and TBS. I left Turner in 1992 to strike out on my own. With industry insider experience and an entertainment point-of-view, I started my company, Big Fish Marketing, Inc., with my former employer among my first clients. In 1996, when branding was just beginning to take hold on the Internet, I worked with the legendary Brandon Tartikoff to create three Web sites for AOL: EntertainmentAsylum.com, Passion.com, and Electra.com. Consulting with IBM, I also pioneered online marketing solutions for top sites NHL.com and PGA.com. Today I am CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Big Fish, a brand marketing firm and interactive agency. I have led my team to craft brand strategies, marketing plans, and promotional campaigns for top media companies like Sony, Time-Warner, MTV Networks, Twentieth Century Fox, and NBC Universal. Over the past sixteen years we have become the premiere brand strategists for the digital age. Our client roster of over 25 entertainment companies includes ABC, A&E, AMC, Bloomberg, Bravo, CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Disney Channel, NBC, The CW, History, Lifetime, and MTV as well as top corporate brands such as Markwins International, Southern California Edison, Aon, and CB Richard Ellis Investors. For me, defining a brand means unearthing its soul and I've used this philosophy to launch dozens of Web sites and television networks including Hallmark Channel, TNT, TLC, FX, GSN, and Animal Planet, as well as global brands like action/adventure channel AXN, SET in India and Latin America, and Japanese anime channel ANIMAX.Drawing on my experience in creating some of the world's leading entertainment brands, I wrote MAKE A NAME FOR YOURSELF: Eight Steps Every Woman Needs to Create a Personal Brand Strategy for Success. The critically acclaimed book guides readers to build a concrete plan to find professional success by applying tested branding principles to personal image. Doing so empowers them to hone their natural talents and passions and market themselves as their own best asset. My latest book, THE FEARLESS FISH OUT OF WATER: How to Succeed When You're the Only One Like You, shows professionals how to stay connected and relevant at work while maintaining a unique identity, how to fit in without blending in, and how to transform exclusion into high impact. I love to speak in front of an audience and I've delivered keynote speeches to some of the nation's biggest corporations such as Mattel, Citibank, UBS, Merrill Lynch, and others, plus top business schools and organizations. Based on my books, my presentations reveal how to make your mark, live your passion, and have lasting success in the business world. Creating time to devote to humanitarian causes is also an important part of my work. I've developed community outreach programs like Lifetime's "Women Rock," a concert event designed to raise awareness for breast cancer issues; CNN's "Your Choice Your Voice" high school-based election promotion; FSN's "Reading All-Stars" literacy campaign; The History Channel's "Save Our History" initiative, which raised money and awareness for the World War II Memorial; and Comedy Central's "Comedy RX," a hospital-based program promoting the healing powers of laughter. Although my business is located in Los Angeles, I make my home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with my husband and creative partner, Steven, and our daughter, Roxanne, the apple of our eye.
