The Virginia Chapter of WICT is off to a great start in 2010, building on the momentum of from 2009, when we won the “Inspire” award for the third year in a row, which is the highest status awarded to WICT Chapters.
Our 2010 mentoring program is well under way: we held our Kick-Off Event on April 13. Our mentoring chairs have been checking in the mentoring pairs and are getting lots of good feedback as we head into Mid Point event on June 18th. The 2010 mentoring class will celebrate all that it has accomplished during their final gathering on September 29, 2010.
Our Tech It out Webinar is once again coming to a conference room near you as we stage luncheons all across Virginia on June 18th. The webinar will feature Mike Braham, VP Cox Business, who is a visionary and sees great potential in the influences of technology on heath care, and the role that the cable industry can play. He has partnered with major hospitals such as Sentara and Bon Secours in Virginia to look at future applications that would allow hospitals to potentially do ‘well visits’ from a patient’s home over their broadband connection. Or perhaps have patients’ vitals reported to a centralized facility from their home, minimizing or reducing hospital stays. Mike has worked on a partnership with Cisco on their new solution called Health Presence which would allow a doctor to “virtually” sit with a patient in a remote location and do a basic examination. The opportunities are endless, whether it’s exams or medical records and data retention. Mike will stimulate your mind, share new possibilities into un-chartered business arenas, and change the way you look at the traditional cable operations.
We got rave reviews for our career, health, and wellness retreat last year, so we’ve got another on tap for this year in early October up in Northern Virginia. We’ll soon be getting more details out on that.
Our signature event to close out the VCTA convention follows soon thereafter on November 9th, and we’re looking forward to gathering will all of our cable colleagues then.
And last but certainly not least is our Leadership Extraordinare at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia. We’ll keep you informed once we have more details on the exact date when Gary McCollum will continue the tradition of ending our year on a high note.
