Gary McCollum, WICT-VA Chapter Advisor
On Wednesday, April 27, Gary T. McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Cox Communications of Virginia and 2011 WICT Virginia Chapter Mentor, was inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA and recognized Virginia leaders that excel in journalism, public relations, advertising and other media fields.
Virginia cable industry leader Gary McCollum, SVP and General Manager of Cox Communications Virginia, was inducted into the 2010 Virginia Cable Hall of Fame, the highest individual honor bestowed by the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (VCTA). McCollum was honored by VCTA on Monday, Nov. 8 at a ceremony at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Va. McCollum is also the WICT VA chapter’s 2011 advisor.“We are incredibly proud of Gary for having achieved this honor,” says Jill Campbell, SVP Eastern Division Operations, Cox Communications. “He is a dynamic and influential leader who brings vision, enthusiasm, and a competitive edge to both the business of running a statewide cable operation and to making a difference in the communities he serves.” McCollum joined Cox Communications in 1989 as a manager trainee in Hartford, Conn., and was later promoted to a variety of management roles, including Plant Operations Manager and Vice President of Customer Care. He went on to serve as General Manager of Cox systems in Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Roanoke, and of the entire Virginia operation, a position he has held since February 2010.

Suddenlink's Atlantic Region's Data Engineer Tia Lee has been named to industry trade publication CableFAX: The Magazine’s “Top Women in Cable Tech” list. The list recognizes women based on how they are helping their companies grow and succeed, as well as the roles they play in mapping the future of cable and telecommunications. Tia is responsible for networks in seven states, including routing, switching and the fiber-optic transport networks supporting video, data, DOCSIS and commercial services. She has earned the Internet Protocol Engineering Professional (IPEP) certification from the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and the Master Technician - Customer Premises certification from Jones/NCTI.

Nathalie Malaty, Finance Manager at Cox Communications in Northern Virginia was named as the Emerging Leader on the WICT National Board of Directors for 2009. In her one year term she will serve as Chair for the inaugural WICT National Junior Board. Over the year the Junior Board will be working on a project based on social networking and associated technologies.
Toni Stubbs, WICT-VA Board Member
On Friday, April 3, 2009, Toni Stubbs, who serves as VP of Field Information Technology for Cox Communications, was awarded the Next Generation Leader Award by National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC). The award was presented at the NAMIC Annual Awards Breakfast held as part of Cable Connection - Spring at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC.
Tia Lee, who serves as the Regional Data Engineer for Suddenlink Communications' Atlantic Region, was recognized in Multichannel News' "40 under 40" annual review. Tia has been with Suddenlink since August 2007, playing key roles in the implementation of its regional data-transport network, as well as the MSO’s cable-modem termination system upgrade and standardization. “I’m incredibly privileged to work with a great team at Suddenlink, where we’re always encouraged and empowered to be our best,” Lee said. “I sincerely look forward to coming to work every day in this business, to see what new challenges we can address and what new things we can learn together.” Lee began her career as a customer-service representative, then took on increased responsibility as a network administrator with Charter Communications. She’s successfully led a technical team that handled core switching and routing projects to upgrade the Internet-service provider network, worked on commercial business fiber projects, led a team of specialists maintaining a cable-modem network, and managed a number of other technical projects and responsibilities.
Marilyn Burrows, WICT-VA 2009 Chapter Mentor
Marilyn Burrows, most recently VP/GM of Cox Roanoke (Va.), was named SVP and GM of Cox Las Vegas. Marilyn joined Cox in 2004 from Time Warner Cable's National Division in Denver, where she was vice president, online services.
Cliona Robb, WICT-VA Chapter President
Christian & Barton attorney Cliona Mary Robb has earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® Accredited Professional (LEED® AP) designation from the Green Building Certification Institute. The LEED® AP designation marks an individual who has passed an exam to demonstrate knowledge and skill of the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Approximately 15 Virginia attorneys currently hold the designation, and Cliona was the first woman attorney in Virginia to become a LEED AP.
