Chantilly, VA - Women Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the cable industry’s oldest and largest professional association serving women, today announced that Maria E. Brennan, CAE has been named its President and CEO.
Brennan brings more than 22 years experience managing non-profit organizations to WICT, whose mission, for over thirty years, has been to develop the skills and advocate for women in cable telecommunications.
“We are very excited to have someone with Maria’s experience to lead WICT,” commented Ellen East, Chair of WICT’s Board of Directors and Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer at Time Warner Cable. “She has a tremendous reputation for vision, business acumen and passion for women’s issues.”
Brennan is currently President of American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) and has served as AWRT’s chief executive since 2002. Brennan has particular expertise in strategic planning, branding strategies, event management and resource development. Brennan is credited with the growth and success of AWRT’s “Gracie Awards,” the Women’s Media Forum and numerous other programs and public service campaigns. As the public voice of AWRT, Brennan is an experienced spokesperson and advocate for both media industry and workplace equity issues.
Additionally, she is an award-winning writer, recently receiving an EXCEL award for her quarterly byline, “Hear Me Roar.” In 2007, Brennan was elected to serve on the Women’s Leadership Board at Harvard University, and is a member of its strategic planning and communications board sub-committees. She is also serving her third term on the Diversity Board of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and is the appointed liaison to Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP). Brennan earned her CAE distinction from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), a certification earned by only 5% of non-profit executives in the U.S. She attended the University of Maryland where she majored in Business Administration, and resides in the Washington, DC-metropolitan area.
Jennifer Dangar, Immediate Past Chair of WICT and Senior Vice President for Distribution at Discovery Communications, led the search committee. “Maria Brennan is a talented leader of incredible intellect, skill and creativity who understands the unique experiences, challenges and competencies of women in media,” Dangar said. “Her strategic approach to finding solutions for tough business issues and her emphasis on accountability make her an excellent choice to lead WICT.”
“I appreciate the Board`s confidence in me to lead WICT,” said Brennan. "I am proud to have the opportunity to serve the members, corporate partners and chapter leaders of the organization. I look forward to being involved in the exciting future which lies ahead for both WICT and the cable telecommunications industry.”
Maria Brennan succeeds Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, who accepted a role with USA Track and Field in June. Brennan will assume her role on October 19th.
