Akella Wicker serves as the Director of Human Resources for the Central States Management Area at Charter Communications. In this role, she supports over 1,000 Field Operations employees in Missouri and Illinois and leads a team of seven human resources professionals.
Akella is responsible for implementing and managing policies and programs in the areas of recruitment, employment, employee relations, and equal opportunity employment. She also partners with leadership to support and implement short- and long-term strategies to attain organizational objectives.
Akella has more than 20 years of human resources experiences in both the public and private sectors. She has previously worked for Verizon Wireless, MGM Grand-Detroit, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and Edward Jones. Akella has a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Lindenwood University and has been SPHR certified since 2007.
Upon joining Charter Communications in April 2016, Akella also became a member of Women in Cable Television and is affiliated with the Midwest Chapter. In her spare time, Akella enjoys traveling, volunteering, and serving on the boards of a variety of organizations in the St. Louis area, all of which are dedicated to empowering and inspiring women including the Professional Organization of Women, Zeta Charitable Foundation of St. Louis, Inc., and Generate Health.
