Cynthia Thomas

Cynthia is currently the Sr. Director of Standards and Practices for the MTV Entertainment Group and Paramount+ at ViacomCBS. When people ask Cynthia what she does, she loves answering that she watches television and movies for a living and it’s the best job in the world! Specifically, she overseas network standards for original scripted and non-scripted series, documentaries, podcasts, and acquired content across linear, digital streaming, and social platforms for Viacom’s adult-directed channels.

In this role Cynthia manages several series such as Yellowstone for the Paramount Network, Emily in Paris for Netflix, The Daily Show for Comedy Central, and Younger, Stephen King’s: The Stand and Star Trek: Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds for Paramount+, overseeing content review from greenlight to script to final cuts.  She assigns Parental Ratings for series and movies, manages live events, and approves consumer products for retail for series brands such as South Park.

Cynthia’s strengths she is most proud of are her ability to develop relationships across departments, and mentoring  colleagues and watching them succeed.  As a leader she is always looking to provide creative solutions to challenging content and to finding the gray areas that work happily for talent/content providers and protect the integrity of ViacomCBS brands.

Cynthia earned a BA in Journalism from Baruch College in New York.  When she’s not watching TV for work she’s binge-watching her favorite shows for fun, reading, traveling and searching the world for the perfect banana ice cream – so far New Orleans’ banana pudding ice cream and a decadent gelato in Rome are tied! She enjoys hanging with her awesome family and her never-miss monthly/now weekly zoom dinners with her squad of amazing sister-friends.  Cynthia currently lives in New York City.
