Elaina Chaves

Elaina Chaves started her Cable career in 2005 when she joined Cablevision as a Service Recovery Compliance Junior Associate and a year later, she was promoted to Senior Associate. Elaina was responsible for rescheduling missed appointments regarding new installations, changes of service and trouble calls.  She assisted in critical escalations to referral departments (Outside Plant, Inside Plant, Construction, Design, and Field Service) to sustain service commitments and to ensure customer satisfaction. She developed excellent communication skills working as a customer advocate, while also working regularly with internal personnel resolving customer issues.

While interacting with all of the different departments within Cablevision, Elaina had a strong desire to expand her knowledge within the company.  In 2007, she accepted a job as a Senior Coordinator for the Long Island East – Inside Plant Department.  She was responsible for keeping track of the Capital and Operational Budgets, submitting requisitions for equipment and product orders.  Elaina was also responsible for paying all invoices and keeping files up to date, packing/shipping all of the equipment repairs.  She attended high level manager meetings and was a vital part of the administration within her department.

Elaina’s five year goal was to become an Inside Plant technician within Cablevision.  After two years working for the department, she approached management and was granted the opportunity to further her education.  She spent the next couple of years studying and completing technical courses through Jones NCTI.  In 2010, a technician position was opened and Elaina was among the last two applicants in the hiring process.  Elaina did not get the position but the hiring manager gave her great advice and opened the door for her to get hands on experience within the department.  She was given her own projects to build racks for full digital launches, worked cutovers, participated in overnight maintenance/grooming. In 2011, she received her Master Technician Certification through Jones NCTI and in June of 2012 Elaina accepted the Long Island West-Inside Plant position.

Elaina has spent the last five months working in the only Master Headend on Long Island; this is where she continues her studying and training.  She was delighted to get approached to submit an application to be a part of the Women’s TechConnect Initiative.  She is truly honored and is looking forward to being a mentee.  She feels blessed to get this opportunity to learn and benefit from the selected mentors and is excited for her growing future in the Cable Technology Industry.
