Fania Washington

Fania N. Washington has twelve years of experience representing management in labor and employment matters.  In her current role as Vice President, Employment Counsel, MTV Networks, she reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Labor and Employment Counsel, MTV Networks, and is responsible for supporting the strategic development and implementation of labor and employment initiatives, providing advice and counsel on all domestic employment matters for the company which includes MTV 360°, MTVN Entertainment Group and MTVN Kids & Family and conducting investigations.  Ms. Washington also manages employee-related litigation matters, which includes dealing with state and federal administrative agencies as well as managing actual trials.

Upon her graduation from law school, Ms. Washington joined the international law firm of Winston & Strawn, LLP, in its New York office.  While an associate in the Labor and Employment group, Ms. Washington assisted with various employment litigation matters, including those involving Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and other federal and state employment statutes.  She gained experience counseling employers in all employment-related matters and drafting employee handbooks and policy manuals.  Further, Ms. Washington counseled clients with respect to the federal affirmative action regulations, which included drafting affirmative action plans as well as representing clients in government audits.

Ms. Washington is also an advisory board member for Corporate Counsel Women of Color (“CCWC”), a not-for-profit organization of women attorneys of color who hold legal positions in Fortune 1000 companies, Forbes 2000 companies, not-for-profit corporations, and other entities in the United States of America and abroad.  In addition, Ms. Washington recently joined the Board of Directors for the Sister Power Organization, a resource center for young girls located in Harlem, New York. 

Ms. Washington is a native New Yorker, and received her undergraduate degree from New York University.  She received her law degree from the University for Virginia School of Law.
