VP, Programming and Acquisitions ESPN

Heather Anderson is VP, Programming and Acquisitions at ESPN – and is currently dedicated to the strategy and growth of the company’s sports betting business and other initiatives that impact all sports.  Heather joined the business team at ESPN after nine years in the Disney Legal department.  As VP and Assistant Chief Counsel at Disney, Heather supported the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment’s Technology team – as the lead attorney supporting Design, Product, Software Engineering, Studio Operations and Studio Technology for brands such as ESPN, ABC News, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Freeform, FX, National Geographic, ABC and Disney.  Prior to DMED, Heather supported the Disney Digital Network, including the Disney and Star Wars digital properties, and handled legal agreements and issues for both short form and long form production, while supporting the Editorial, Social Media and Product teams.  Heather began her career at Disney as the attorney for Disney’s video and mobile games.

Prior to joining Disney, Heather practiced entertainment and IP law at Bloomberg Law, Business and Legal Affairs at Interscope Geffen A&M Records, and as an IP attorney at Fox.  She was a litigator at Thelen, Reid & Priest LLP after graduation from law school 25 years ago.  Her decision to pair her love of music (as an aspiring artist) and her desire to become an attorney led to her becoming an entertainment lawyer – and along her career path she has exhibited her entrepreneurial spirit with an artist management company, independent record label and solo music law practice.

Heather is deeply dedicated to improving DEI efforts – particularly pipelining diverse employees in to the industry.  She participates in multiple organizations across Disney and ESPN, and is a member of the Television Academy’s Diversity Council and the Council on Access and Fairness (COAF) for the State Bar of California.
