Heather Umen

Heather joined WE tv in January 2005, to serve as the Director of Event Marketing.  In this role, she was responsible for all internal, consumer, and trade events for the network. Additionally, she controlled and executed the network premium programs. Shortly after her arrival at the network, she was also charged with spearheading WE Empowers Women, WE tv’s public affairs initiative. The initiative was in its infancy at the time and she worked to establish its mission, partnerships, and was the primary liaison to the Advisory Council. Heading into the third year of WE Empowers Women, she has been instrumental in its refocused initiative to be unveiled in the Fall of 2007.  Combining her events and public affairs responsibilities, her title was recently changed to Director of Brand Experience and Events for WE tv.

A graduate of Ithaca College with a B.S. in Sports Information & Communication, Heather started her career coordinating events and marketing efforts for the Colorado Silver Bullets, a professional baseball team composed exclusively of women and managed by Baseball Hall of Famer, Phil Niekro. After a season with the Bullets, Heather spent five years as the Director of a non-profit, the Nassau County Sports Commission, securing sponsorships, managing fundraisers and serving as liaison among the Commission, County government, business executives in the community, and sports teams. She contributed to bringing sporting events such as the Goodwill Games and the U.S. (Golf) Open to Nassau County.  Heather next moved into the professional sports arena, serving as Director of Community Relations and Fan Development for two franchises under common ownership, the New York Islanders ice hockey franchise and the New York Dragons arena football team.

She serves as co-Chair of the Beacon Awards Event Committee for 2008, serves on the Events Committee of the Sports Leadership Institute, a non profit organization; as well as sitting on the Events Committee of Tuesday’s Children, a non profit organization that has made a long-term commitment to every individual who was directly impacted by the events of September 11, 2001.
