Janet Barnard

Janet Barnard is senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications Kansas/Arkansas.

Prior to her current role, Barnard was senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications Northern Virginia, where she was responsible for the company’s operations in Fairfax County and the Fredericksburg region.

Barnard joined Cox in 1988 as accounting manager for the Middle Georgia operation. She later served as controller, director of finance and director of business operations for Cox’s Gainesville-Ocala operation. She served as vice president and region manager of Cox’s Omaha system, and most recently held the position of vice president and region manager for Cox’s largest operation, Middle America, based in Tyler, Texas. Prior to joining Cox, she served as a general ledger accountant for Beatrice Construction Co., Inc. in Beatrice, Neb.

She was named Women in Cable Telecommunications’ 2003 Woman to Watch, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce 2003 Athena Award Winner and a 2003 YWCA Woman of Vision. She was named to the CableFAX Top 25 Regional Players list in 2008. Barnard served on the boards of directors of the George Mason University Foundation, the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Northern Virginia Community Foundation, the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of Women in Cable Telecommunications, the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing and the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications and is a recent graduate of the prestigious Betsy Magness Leadership Institute.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Barnard holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting.
