Jennifer Porterfield

Jennifer Porterfield is a Coordinator at Scripps Networks in the Closed Captioning department, which is responsible for ensuring all new programming processed by Scripps has FCC-compliant captioning prior to air. She is a huge proponent of process improvement and has been integral in streamlining many of the department’s administrative processes. By creating detailed documentation for these processes, she also helped ensure smooth transitions during workflow changes.

Less than a year after joining the captioning group, Jennifer was tasked with managing captioning revisions. Approximately 1,000 revisions are processed each year at Scripps, from minor copyright fixes to an entire episode being recut. Jennifer quickly established relationships with brand and media center representatives to ensure the department receives accurate information regarding what is being revised. Her improvements to the revision tracking process have greatly increased efficiency while decreasing errors. Because of Jennifer’s diverse skillset, she is also able to assist neighboring departments within the Video Operations and Enterprise Metadata groups as needed.

In addition to her job at Scripps, Jennifer performs regular freelance work for a handful of clients, including a small technology company in Raleigh and a Knoxville-based marketing firm. Her range of freelance experience has involved building websites, managing social media accounts, writing proposals, writing scripts for promotional videos, and editing quarterly magazines.

Jennifer graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2005 with a B.A. in English. When she is not working, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and her daughters, Rowyn and Aiwin; reading books of all genres; and discovering new music.
