Laurel is a co-founder and CTO at CyCore Systems, a consultancy specializing in solving novel multi-realm problems with focuses on telecommunications and systems architecture.  In addition to award-winning work as a product designer, she teaches and speaks on UI, UX, leadership, and design practice as well as other technical and nontechnical topics. With a focus on equity and justice, and long experience as both activist and advocate, she prioritizes community work including service as a founding city leader of AnitaB.org Atlanta.

Laurel is also a working dancer and choreographer.  In addition to her independent work, she can be seen with the acclaimed physically integrated company Full Radius Dance, which she joined in 2004, and with the disabled artists’ collective Kinetic Light, founded in 2015 and led by Alice Sheppard.  Kinetic Light is currently touring DESCENT, an evening-length duet danced on a large architectural ramp with immersive projections. She is the designer and product lead of Audimance, an open source product which creates an entirely new nonvisual way of experiencing durational or performing art through virtual environments.   Her artistic and social justice practice was recognized with a 2019-20 Dance/USA Artist Fellowship; made possible with generous funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

When not at a computer or in the studio, she’s likely to be found training; Laurel is proud to be a member of the 2019-20 USA Women’s Sled Hockey team.
