Portia Archer

Portia Archer is vice president, International Distribution, for Home Box Office, responsible for the strategic planning and launch of HBO SD and HD channels outside of the U.S. This includes the development and management of video on demand (VOD) channels across internet, TV and mobile platforms such as HBO on Demand and HBO Mobile in South Africa, Canada, the UK and Japan.  She also oversees the VOD relationships with HBO Ventures: HBO Asia, HBO Central Europe and HBO Latin America. 

Ms. Archer has extensive professional experience with global media and entertainment companies.  Prior to joining HBO in 2007, she led several large scale transformation efforts for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and BBC Worldwide in London, including restructuring the TV Production and Commissioning/Programming departments as well as launching new multi-platform services and TV channels.  Additionally, she was executive director at America Online, Inc., where she reported to the vice chairman of AOL and was responsible for developing new businesses and negotiating strategic deals with key partners.  Ms. Archer also spent six years in the Media & Entertainment Practice at Booz Allen Hamilton, focusing on corporate strategy, operations and technology consulting for global media companies. 

She is a member of Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Ms. Archer holds an A.B. in Economics and Public Policy from The University of Chicago and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
