WICT Rocky Mountain: Equality in the Workforce (Virtual Webinar)

Each person comes to a workplace with their own unique set of skills and identities. Additionally, every person wants to feel safe and equal in their workplace. On a basic level, equality in the workplace means a lack of discrimination and equal opportunity. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done but there are some actions that you can take increase equity in your workplace. Areas of work culture you can advocate for more equality are Equal Pay, Reasonable Work Accommodations, Sponsoring Women & Minorities for Career Advancement, etc. Our speakers will discuss how leader they have advocated for and educated their colleagues on best practice to improve equality in the workplace.

About the Speakers
Christine Zekis, Software Engineer, Speaker, DEI Advocate
Christine (‘Tine) Zekis is an educator-turned-developer working as a Software Engineer at Chime’s Chicago office. She shifted careers by way of coding bootcamp in 2015, becoming a third-generation woman programmer who takes pride in delivering clean, well-tested code. As a champion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in tech, ‘Tine values mentoring and sponsoring other career changers, especially those who are underrepresented in the industry. In her spare time…just kidding: ‘Tine has a three-year-old daughter, a one-year-old son, and no spare time.
Joy Wiggins, PhD: Equity and Inclusion Consulting, LLC
Joy is a speaker, author, scholar, and facilitator who promotes racial and gender justice through compassion and open dialogue to ignite equitable, empowering, and transformative practices. Joy Wiggins’ work examines the ways social realities influence our day-to-day communications across cultures. Her work led to the creation of a program, titled “Global Peaceful Paths” which encourages participants to self-reflect before interacting with others and the world at large.
