Communicating comfortably and effectively isn’t as easy as it sounds. Particularly if you have bad news to share with a co-worker or client or need to have a conversation about a sensitive topic. It can even be uncomfortable to talk about good news when it comes to highlighting your own accomplishments.

In this interactive program you will learn:

  • The biggest roadblock to understanding and agreement
  • How to give constructive feedback
  • How to highlight your achievements without sounding obnoxious
  • The VOICES method, so you can comfortably and confidently share "bad" news
  • Tips to take the frustration out of email communication

We had a tremendous turn out for the Goal Setting Luncheon earlier this month! The attendees set goals and set themselves up for success in 2018! Our speaker Jillian Tedesco led our participants through a SMART goal exercise to help.

"Owning Your Career" Networking Event


Are you looking for a way to network with other professionals in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area? Come network at our "Owning Your Career" bowling event to enjoy the company of members of both WICT Midwest and NAMIC.

Vanessa Edwards, Volunteer Engagement Manager from Neighborhood House will be our guest speaker. Discussion will be around the importance/impact of giving back to the community you live in.


There will be a food drive for non-perishable items during the event so feel free to donate! (All donations will go to the Neighborhood House)

Dr. Rachel Williams is the Vice-President of Engineering for Comcast. She leads a large technical team who design, architect, construct and maintain the network for Comcast’s Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Missouri residential and business customers. Dr Williams holds a Ph.D. on Organization and Management with a specialization in Leadership, and M.B.A., and a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy. She is and ITIL Expert and P.M.P. Certified. Rachel lives in Minnesota and enjoys the outdoors.

10 Habits of Happy People Event with Tawni Hoeglund

Sept 28th Event




Tawni Hoeglund is a Happiness Expert. She teaches individuals how to live happier and more fulfilling lives through her research-based Practicing Happiness workshops.

She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Minnesota and has been a licensed psychologist for more than a decade. Over the course of her psychology career, she has worked as a:

University Instructor at Maryville University teaching psychology courses

University Counselor at the Colorado School of Mines, University of Minnesota, and Carlton College fostering growth and development in students

University Researcher at the Colorado School of Mines examining engineering education 

Prior to becoming a psychologist, she earned a BS in electrical and computer engineering and wrote software that simulated integrated circuits.

She lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and two sons.


Practicing Happiness workshops are aimed at empowering individuals with

Industry Awareness Webinar – Matthew Dainauski


Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Midwest presents an Industry Awareness webinar featuring Matthew Dainauski.  The webinar will cover the latest on Industry Awareness such as the impact on the Cable industry concerning, autonomous cars, virtual reality, holographics and 4KTV. We will learn how High Speed Data imapcts our military and government affairs and how the migration towards fiber to the home will change our industry.

Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Midwest presents a speed-dating style activity to promote mentoring among women of all ages. The fun format of the event allows attendees one-on-one interactions with established mentors. Participants will have time to briefly introduce themselves and ask as many questions as possible in five minutes. The goal is for attendees to get solid advice from experienced professionals, make new connections and have a blast while doing it!

Spirit of Midwest Awards


Cable industry colleagues gathered for the evening event, which was held in conjunction with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Gateway Chapter’s annual Vendor Day. The 2016 Spirit of the Midwest award honorees are Jada Marcotte, Comcast for Rising Leader; Pamela Hermann, Suddenlink Communications for Spirit of the Midwest; and Erin Hayes, Director of Corporate Construction, Midco for Woman in Technology.

Tech It Out

On May 11, 2016, the Women in Cable Telecommunication (WICT) Midwest Chapter hosted “The Future,” a Tech It Out luncheon.  More than 70 industry professionals attended. Held in conjunction with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Gateway Chapter’s annual Vendor Day, the event featured a panel moderated by Suddenlink Communication Senior Manager Advance Services Tim Angel. Panelists include Angela Rinaldo; Charter Communications Senior Director of Video Operations, Andrew Solarz; Cisco Systems Business Development Manager, Gary Shawd; Midcontinent Vice President Information Systems, Amber Hangen; Comcast Network Engineer.

Prior to the panel discussion, World Wide Technology, Inc. VP Global Human Resources Ann Marr spoke with Suddenlink VP Business Intelligence and Analytics and WICT Midwest Board Member Pamela Hermann, sharing with the audience on WWT’s Intern program giving opportunities to collegiate students to work in a technology company and the importance of exposing young people to STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education and career exploration.



Dress for Success Donation Drives


Another successful clothing drive for WICT Midwest Chapter in Des Moines.  174 clothing and accessory items collected.

In February 2016, WICT Midwest hosted a multi-city business attire drive to support Dress of Success affiliates in St. Louis, Mo.; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn; and Sioux Falls, S.D.  Combined, more than 1,700 clothing and accessory items were collected, along with $260 in cash donations.

Women’s Safe House Luncheon


The Women’s Safe House event held on Friday, November 13 was a huge success!  We had 51 attendees and raised $3,440 including cash donations and gift cards.  Florence McKinley, Coordinator for the Aftercare Program at the Safe House, shared her appreciation for the event and the needs of the organization.  Carol, a participant in the Aftercare Program, shared her personal story.  InfoMart, Showtime, MOTIV8, Hallmark Channel, Outsolve, GSN, NAMIC, IWCODirect and NBCUniversal sponsors graciously donated items for the silent auction.  Many thanks go out to the WICT members and non members for their donation to help create bright futures for those who benefit from the Women’s Safe House.

Sequins, Suits and Sneakers Gala


A number of WICT Midwest members were proud to support the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation at the annual “Sequins, Suits & Sneakers Gala” on November 12.  The JJK Foundation supports a large youth center in the struggling city of East St. Louis; providing a safe haven to young people where they can find friendship in sports, a warm meal, mentorship, and educational support for a brighter future.

Know Your Business; an Interactive 101 of Current and Upcoming Technology 


Attendees took their "passport" around the world of technology and
interact with experts in new technology on Oct 29, at 6:30 pm at Surly Brewing
Company in Minneapolis.  They
enjoyed networking while learning about new technology in the home, family safety on the internet, presentations from your mobile device, best phone and tablet apps for work/life balance and many more.  Participants walked away with a fully stamped passport, great information and new connections.

1st Annual WICT Midwest Chapter Leadership Seminar


WICT Midwest Chapter piloted the first annual leadership seminar on
October 22 at World Wide Technology in St. Louis. 
Jen Sherman, senior
consultant from Proteus, showed the audience how the Being Strategic model can
create clear vision in any area of your life and make a practical plan for
moving toward it without getting derailed.  Real life stories were shared from the panel
discussion featuring cable industry leaders: Bob Adelman, RVP of Affiliate
Sales and Marketing, Fox Cable Networks, Holly Henderson, VP of Distribution at
Crown Media Family Networks, Mary Jo Moehle, VP of Communications, Charter
Communications and Kathy Payne, SVP, Chief Programming Officer, Suddenlink
Communications moderated by Jen Sherman.

EDS Scholarship Thank You!


From the EDS Scholarship winner, Amy Assouad, "Many thanks to WICT Midwest for the opportunity to attend EDS—Leading with Executive Presence last week.  I was honored to receive the scholarship.  I met many inspirational women (including a fellow WICT Midwest Chapter member) and learned much about leadership and honing my skills.  I’ve been back in the office for less than two full days, and I’ve already put some of what I’ve learned into practice.  I truly appreciate the chapter’s support in my leadership development."



Keep Up-to-Date in an Ever-Changing World


Gail D. Johnson, MBA (bottom left) and Kelley Gerwig (bottom right) shared their insights on personal and professional branding at the Keeping Up In an Ever-Changing World event in St. Louis on Sept. 11. Washington University TESLA Event


On Sept. 5, WICT Midwest chapter members participated in an exciting community outreach organized by the Washington University college student group, TESLA (Teaching Engineering to St. Louis Adolescents), to introduced middle-school kids to STEM, or STEAM (+Arts).  This event is an important step to build excitement and bring more diversity to the STEM disciplines.

Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives for a Competitive Workforce


On Aug. 19, WICT members and guests in multiple locations gathered to hear an open panel discussion on workplace diversity and inclusion.  Those in St. Louis, Mo., attended the live lunchtime event while groups in St. Paul and Waseca, Minn., and St. Joseph, Mo., gathered  to participate via webinar.


TEKsystems Account Manager Kalena Beckley served as moderator, joined onstage by TEKsystems Diversity Manager Dr. Eric Lee, Littler Mendelson PC Counsel and Shareholder Amie Needham, and Suddenlink Sr. HR Director Jennifer Beery. Joining the panel remotely were RevoltTV Affiliate Marketing VP Angela Turner (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Comcast Senior HR Director Sherrie Kronforst (St. Paul, Minn.).


The panel shared personal thoughts and compelling statistics about diversity as a competitive advantage as well as the importance of creating an inclusive workplace, topics well-aligned with WICT’s commitment to creating bold, self-empowered leaders through advocacy and leadership training.

Spirit of Midwest Awards


Approximately 150 cable industry colleagues gathered for the evening event, which was held in conjunction with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Gateway Chapter’s annual Vendor Day. The 2015 Spirit of the Midwest award honorees are Lisa Shea from Suddenlink for Rising Leader; Melissa Morris from Charter for Spirit of the Midwest; and Andrea Wegley from ARRIS for Woman in Technology.

Tech It Out


On May 13, 2015, the Women in Cable Telecommunication (WICT) Midwest Chapter hosted “The Internet of Things,” a Tech It Out luncheon.  More than 130 industry professionals attended. Held in conjunction with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Gateway Chapter’s annual Vendor Day, the event featured a panel moderated by Charter VP/GM Sean O’Donnell. Panelists included Suddenlink CTO Terry Cordova; ARRIS VP Sales & Development, Video Solutions, Susan George; Comcast CCAD President Bridget Kimball; Charter VP/GM Melissa Morris; and World Wide Technology Principle Consultant Chris Ward.


Prior to the panel discussion, U.S. Olympic champion and community activist Jackie Joyner-Kersee shared with the audience her passion for giving back to youth, and the importance of exposing young people to STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education and career exploration.

How to Grow Your Career in Midst of Change


The Spring event was held April 30th at the Berglund Wright Room, overlooking beautiful Como Park Zoo, in St Paul. MN.  Proceeds from events there help support the Zoo’s animal programs.
The program began with a networking hour that included a visit from Nicki, an Animal Ambassador who trains, Ben the Red Tail Hawk. Guest enjoyed visiting with Ben and learning about Red Tailed Hawks, networking at the tables with conversation games, as a delicious luncheon catered by Lancer featured their Riviera Buffet was served.


The guest speaker, Cory Limberg, spoke on Embracing Change.  Cory is the Director of Comcast’s Billing Center of Excellence in St Paul, MN.   He shared stories of some unique opportunities he has had in his career, including a time working in Japan.  He encouraged WICT members to be fearless embracing change, and reminded us, our lives maybe better by change.


A raffle was held for door prizes and each guest left with a gift of flower seeds reflecting change and growth.


The very successful event was attended by 50 WICT members at the Zoo, and 21 more in a simultaneous webcast.  Click here for the recorded presentation.


Midwest Chapter Kick Off


Several attendees came to learn more about WICT membership and committed to joining the chapter at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant on March 18, 2015 in St. Louis.  The event was a terrific opportunity for new members and longtime members to meet. Board members explained upcoming initiatives and encouraged attendees to consider serving on a committee or two. Thanks to our generous event sponsor, Synacor Inc.

2014 Events


‘Taste of WICT’ Proved a Sweet Success

Members of the north programming committee hosted a membership drive at the Comcast Center of Excellence, Minnetonka, Minn., Aug. 28, 2014. The “Taste of WICT” event featured an old-fashioned candy and treat bar. In all, 26 Comcast employees joined WICT.

Committee members in attendance included North Programming Chair and Call Center Supervisor Jada Marcotte, North Membership Chair and Call Center Manager Julie Pozel, New Hire Academy Supervisor Susanne Catlin, Call Center Supervisor Rachel Robinson, Administrative Supervisor Shirley Dell, and Call Center Supervisor Cathy Feehan.      ​
