WICT Announces 2010 WICT Cable Industry Activities

Including updated formats and events

Chantilly, VA – Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) today announced new programs and formats for its events during cable’s industry-wide gatherings, including Cable Connection Spring and Fall, and the newly reinstated Diversity Week.

WICT will emphasize results from its PAR Initiative Executive Report throughout its events this year, while working to impact change prior to the 2011 PAR survey. All of its events during these industry-wide gatherings will focus on recognizing the leaders in the cable industry’s efforts to promote gender diversity, emphasizing best practices, and leadership training. One important area identified in the PAR Report that WICT will continue to target is attracting more women to technology jobs in the cable industry.

“Our goal for this year is to highlight the key takeaways from the PAR report, train more women leaders, and further develop one of the best growth opportunities for women by focusing on technology jobs,” said Maria E. Brennan, CAE, President & CEO of WICT. Brennan elaborated by saying, “We want to effect positive change by learning from those companies that are doing things right, honoring women leaders of our industry, enhancing the leadership skills of women, and working to attract them to areas with significant potential for growth. It is our hope that when we field the PAR survey next year, we will be able to see improvement in several areas.”

During Cable Connection Spring (May 11-13) in Los Angeles, The WICT Signature Luncheon (on Tuesday, May 11 at the Los Angeles JW Marriott) will showcase gender diversity by honoring the 2009 PAR Best Companies for Women in Cable. The WICT Signature Luncheon is the premier industry event where distinguished leaders and exemplary companies come together to recognize the year’s inspiring achievements in support of women in the cable industry. The luncheon will feature Giuliana Rancic (Anchor and Managing Editor of E! News and Star of Style Network’s Giuliana & Bill) as its host, in addition to a high-profile keynote speaker and industry CEO’s from award-winning companies.

During Diversity Week (September 13-16) in New York City in September, WICT will hold several important events. WICT’s Leadership Conference will take place on September 13 and 14. This is the foremost women’s leadership conference for the industry. In conjunction with the Leadership Conference, WICT will honor the industry’s role models from the national and chapter level who embody The Touchstones — the foundation for all of WICT's initiatives. The Touchstones Luncheon, scheduled for September 13, recognizes those leaders and organizations that are paving the way for the development of women leaders in the cable industry. WICT will also recognize the 2010 Woman to Watch and Woman of the Year during The Touchstones Luncheon. Diversity Week was reinstated by NCTA to support a greater focus on these issues.

During Cable Connection Fall (October 18-22) in New Orleans, WICT will feature its Tech It Out Breakfast Panel, an event that aspires to attract more women to technology jobs in the cable industry. WICT’s PAR Initiative research shows women comprised 15.1 of all cable technology employees in 2008 and 22.4% in 2009. WICT will present a special breakfast panel discussion on October 20. This frank and lively panel discussion will feature industry professionals who have chosen to pursue a technology-based career and their perspectives on the obstacles and opportunities facing women coming into the field. In partnership with the Society of Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Communications Technology Magazine, WICT will also award its annual Women in Technology Award during Cable Connection Fall.
