Premier Leadership Program Celebrates 25 Years in 2019
Washington, DC – Today WICT announced that it graduated its landmark one-thousandth participant in the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute last week in Park City, Utah. Comcast’s Sara Dionne, VP, Human Resources, Strategy & Operations, Northeast Division, is the milestone graduate. She joins an impressive cohort of BMLI alumnae, totaling 1,021 women worldwide.
Launched in 1994 and now in its 25th year, BMLI is recognized by the industry as the premier leadership development program for executive women in the cable media industry. The most recent group of “Betsys,” Classes 38 and 39, received their diplomas during the special graduation ceremony.
WICT proudly recognizes Charter Communications as the Premier Sponsor of the program as well as Supporting Sponsor, Comcast NBCUniversal, and Industry Partner, the Walter Kaitz Foundation.
“WICT congratulates the 1000th graduate of the BMLI program, as well as all of the members of Classes 38 and 39. Those who participated in last week’s graduation ceremony represent many of the most influential and committed leaders in our industry,” said Maria E. Brennan, CAE, WICT President & CEO.
Joanna Dees, WICT’s VP, Educational Programs, added, “While celebrating milestones is certainly important, the true measure of success is the tremendous work the executives carry out during their yearlong BMLI journey and beyond. The collective contributions made by our graduates serve as a testament to the impact of the BMLI program.”
This fall, WICT will mark the 25th anniversary of the BMLI program with a special reception in Atlanta, GA, on the evening of November 20.

The Institute’s Founding
Established by WICT in 1994 with a generous grant from TCI’s Bob Magness and J.C. Sparkman, the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute is named in honor of one of the industry’s most charismatic leaders, a cable pioneer who combined business acumen with compassion. Betsy Magness was instrumental in transforming TCI, later AT&T Broadband and Internet Services, and now Comcast, into one of the nation’s most prominent and influential cable and telecommunication companies.
WICT is a global organization whose mission is to create women leaders who transform our industry. We do this by providing unparalleled professional development programs, commissioning original gender research, and supporting a B2B network that helps advance women. For 40 years, WICT has partnered with cable and technology companies to help build a more robust pipeline of women leaders. Founded in 1979, and now over 10,500 members strong, WICT is the largest and oldest professional association serving women in cable media. Charter Communications and Comcast NBCUniversal are WICT’s Strategic Touchstone Partners. Please visit www.wict.org or follow @WICTHQ on Twitter for more information.
