STEM & the Junior Board

2015 Junior Board tasked with continuing efforts to enhance local and regional programming under the umbrella of “Tech It Out”

The Junior Board is a task force that includes some of the industry’s top emerging leaders from WICT’s Strategic Partner companies.

Since 2009, WICT has worked in partnership with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and cable’s top women in technology to expand WICT’s Tech It Out Conference into a full STEM initiative. Building on that expansion, the members of the WICT Junior Board (which reports in and collaborates with the WICT National Board) have worked together to identify gaps and provide innovative ideas for refining WICT’s STEM initiatives. In 2012, the WICT Junior Board focused specifically on how chapters can engage STEM students at local colleges and universities in tandem with chapter Tech It Out events. That work was built upon in 2013 and 2014 as the Junior Board was tasked with looking more broadly at how WICT’s robust network of local chapters could leverage the mission and goals of the Tech It Out Initiative to help address the industry’s gender gap in technology. Their extensive work led to the creation of a guidebook for WICT chapters to follow when implementing a local Tech It Out event.

In 2015, the WICT Junior Board will strive to develop a database of potential speakers and topics that chapters will be able to consult as they look to develop a Tech It Out program.
